Museum of Applied Arts - Tashkent
By visiting the State Museum of Applied Arts, you will be able to see an amazing collection collected from all regions of Uzbekistan. In total, more than 7,000 exhibits of folk art from the beginning of the 19th century to the present day are collected here: ceramic, porcelain and glassware, samples of the best fabrics made by hand and in factories, carpets, national Uzbek clothes, jewelry, wood carving and painting, and other items of folk craft. A spiritual atmosphere reigns in the halls of the museum, which is formed by a combination of ancient exhibits and an old interior. Several halls are regularly given over to exhibitions of works by contemporary masters working in traditional techniques. Interest in the museum is caused not only by its original collections but also by the beautiful room in which it is located. Earlier, at the end of the 19th century, this building was the residence of the Russian diplomat A.A. Polovtsev. The house is made in the national oriental style. At the entrance to the former reception room of the diplomat was posted
an inscription that said: "The world is a house where new people come every day."
The Museum of Applied Arts began its work in 1927, but then it was called the Museum of Craft Arts. In 1938, a new building was given to the museum, where it is still based. The building of culture received its national status in 1997 by the decision of the Ministry of Culture.
The galleries of the museum contain the best examples of applied art and various folk styles of the early 19th century. Collections are constantly replenished with the best works of contemporary masters.
The handicrafts that are stored in the museum can be divided into 3 groups: ancient applied art, the artistic ornament of the second half of the 19th century, and modern art, which is dominated by multi-colored ornament.
Collected in the museum's vaults, the works are kept in collections, divided into twenty separate types, as they are displayed in the exhibition halls.
