09:00 - Full day city tour of Samarkand, today we shall visit:
- Registan Square, known since the 13th century as a market square. Registan was the center of trade and cultural life in medieval Samarkand. The square is surrounded by three madrasahs built in different historical periods. Ulugbek Madrasah was built in 1417-1420. by order of Ulugbek, the grandson of Tamerlane. This monumental madrasah with a portal decorated with five- and ten-pointed stars and spirals was the largest University of Central Asia in the 15th century. Sher Dor Madrasah is an architectural reflection of Ulugbek Madrasah. The portal of the building is decorated with a mosaic laid out in the form of tigers and gazelles. The madrasah was built in the 17th century, 200 years later than Ulugbek's madrasah. Tilla Kori Madrasah (1660) is the third madrasah of the Registan ensemble. The madrasah includes a mosque with golden paintings in the interior. The building was built by order of Yalagtush Bahadur 10 years after the completion of the Sher Dor madrasah.
- The Bibi Khanum Mosque, once the largest mosque in Central Asia, was built by order of Tamerlane after his victorious campaign to India in 1399.
- Visit to the Siab Bazaar. Nearby there are many teahouses - pavilions for tea drinking, filled with the atmosphere of traditional Samarkand hospitality.
- Necropolis Shakhi-Zinda - a place of pilgrimage from the 11th century still enjoys the status of a holy place. The necropolis consists of about 20 mausoleums built between the 11th and 19th centuries. The complex was founded around the burial place of Kusam ibn Abbas, the cousin of the Prophet Muhammad, who, according to legend, arrived in Samarkand in the 8th century.
- Gur Emir, the mausoleum (1404-1420), in which the ashes of Amir Timur and other members of his dynasty rest, is a perfect example of the architecture of the Timurid period: simplicity and practicality, as well as harmony of forms and a richly decorated interior (papier-mâché painted in blue and gold paints.
- The famous Observatory of the 15th century by the great scientist of the Middle Ages Mirzo Ulugbek, where you can see the sextant astronomical instrument created by Ulugbek, which allowed Ulugbek and his students to create the famous "Tables of the Starry Sky".
- Ancient settlement and museum Afrosiab. The settlement of Afrosiab (ancient Samarkand), surrounded by a moat, occupies an area of 212 hectares. The city existed from the 6th century BC. up to 13th c. AD Now archaeologists conduct regular excavations here.
